John Major (1990-97) and Boris Johnson (2019-22) were two very different UK Conservative Prime Ministers separated by 25 years yet both suffered media meltdowns and humiliating exits. Despite their contrasting characters, both were unable to resist counterproductive approaches to PR in government. What can this tell us about the underlying dynamics of government-media relations.
