Sustainable open innovation to address a grand challenge

What is it about?

It isn't straightforward for organizations to really address a grand challenge such as creating a more sustainable planet by lowering plastic waste. We describe the case of the Danish brewer Carlsberg that shows how it can actually work by using open innovation to work together with partners to develop a biodegradable beer bottle, the Green Fiber Bottle. This case holds important lessons for how to develop the right skills and approaches to innovate collaboratively in the face of complex sustainability challenges.
