What is it about?

This article presents the findings of a systematic review of Nigerian entrepreneurship education research published in 20 journals over a 16-year period. This study examines research contributions in the field of entrepreneurship education within the Nigerian context, with the aim of understanding the focus and the different research areas covered by the published research. Why is it important?

This research finds that the published Nigerian entrepreneurship education literature is largely focused on the development of skills, intention, drive and attitudes, but much less has been written about the development of an entrepreneurial mindset. There is also more focus within the literature on creating awareness about entrepreneurship, but only a limited focus on pedagogical experiential approaches to prepare potential entrepreneurs. The study also highlights the high percentage of articles which are published in non-Scopus indexed journals in this field, which suggests this topic would benefit from more rigorous research and wider international exposure.

Perspectives

Entrepreneurship education in Nigeria is a topic which is developing and research contributions in this areas are growing. However, it might be beneficial to increase the level of rigorous pedagogic research to help support the development of the entrepreneurship education delivered. Further consideration of the development of an entrepreneurial mindset might also help to frame some of the existing research on skills, intention, drive and attitudes.
