What is it about?

There is no doubt that the moral dimension of education is important, but it is neither adequate in constructing a just society nor sufficient for preparing citizens to live in a wider world. So, what kind of citizens are we expecting in Macao, under the principle of "one country, two systems".

Why is it important?

The controversial aspect lies between the social cohesion on one hand, and fostering the active citizen, critical thinking and public reasoning in pursuit of democracy on the other hand. It seems that the discourses of active democratic citizenship and nation-building are incompatible in the context of Macao. To embrace the world and these challenges, perhaps we need to rewrite the connotations of citizenship in order to enable and empower us to actively engage in the local, regional, international and global community. However, at this moment, when the harmonization of a melody takes place, all we hear is a collective piece, and the voices of the individuals are silenced.
