What is it about?

Distributors' construct their own websites and use other online tools to promote their releases. These websites not only promote the films they distribute, but also their own actions and processes.

Why is it important?

Ancillary materials related to film and media are becoming increasingly studied. The practices and processes associated with these ancillary media, such as websites, also require study to understand how films are disseminated and perceived. This also has an impact on filmic labels and categories, such as Asian cinema.

Perspectives

This is taken from my PhD thesis which also studies DVD extras, packaging, trailers and reviews of the discs. Independent distributors, such as those for Asian films, increasingly use these resources to promote their own actions and the films they have acquired for UK release.
