What is it about?

Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal is more than an academic publication - it is a community of scholars. From the creation of the journal in the late 1980s to its current international prominence, AAAJ has been the centre of research development for qualitative accounting studies, helping to expand knowledge about many aspects of accounting. A particular focus of investigation has been the roles of accounting in social and environmental contexts.

Why is it important?

The paper is a definitive history not only of AAAJ's first 30 years but also of the vibrant community of scholars that the journal has encouraged.

Perspectives

As an accounting researcher whose career has embraced all of AAAJ's 30 years, I found it fascinating to revisit the origins of the journal and to gain insights into the challenges that the founders faced in creating and establishing the journal.
