What is it about?

The organisation-environment relation structure can enable or stymie knowledge flow from the environment to the enterprise. In this flow of knowledge based on the attention structure, exclusive versus non-exclusive links with the environment, plays an important role. Because attention is scarce resource, a misaligned attention structure can reduce its comparative advantage. This article deals with the exclusive licensing versus inclusive deals. Both rest on different motives and produce different results. The evidence from the biopharmaceutical sector support these ideas of attention structure to the situated context and interpretative decisions.
