What is it about?

This article aimed to explain that institutional factors enable or inhibit the commercialization of new products in the in the biotechnology sector when institutionalized weaknesses harm the project and organizational legitimacy.

Discoveries cost billions of dollars and decades of experiments; thefore, the causes and consequences of technology transfer and commercialization merits attention and demands explanation for research and policy.

Perspectives

Because of direct engagement with this project, the author had the chance to understand why a viable technology failed to become a blockbuster despite its scientfically proven properties. Moremover, the managerial attitude revealed interest patterns of inertia and risk avoidance.
