What is it about?

Lerdahl (2007, p. 13) considers creativity a ‘‘state of mind’’ that can be found among people in all kind of professions under particular circumstances. An alternative perspective on creativity is the ability to produce something that is new, original, unexpected and appropriate (Sternberg and Lubard, 1991). How to facilitate learning of creativity? Traditional teaching methods, particularly in undergraduate programs, have emphasized the students’ ability to reproduce textbook answers. This paper explores creativity and whether it is possible to learn creativity. If it is possible to learn creativity; how to facilitate learning of creativity?

Why is it important?

The findings indicate it is possible to learn creativity. A safe setting, such as in an innovation camp where interdisciplinary teams consisting of people who do not know each other in advance, may actually facilitate learning of creativity. Creativity is thus often a result of collaboration between people with different backgrounds and perspectives.

Perspectives

This article is based on studies made during several years of teachning innovation and entreprenership to various categories of students. Many students have discovered they are far more creative than expected.
