Why is it important?

To compete, cities need to consider infrastructure for the knowledge economy and resilience. Megaprojects and innovative transportation are part of the solution but so is 'sweating' existing assets. However, infrastructure, technology or place configuration insufficient without inclusive institutions. A broader knowledge‐city conceptualisation helps inform planning, management and oversight for regional second‐tier cities.

Perspectives

To compete on global stage, cities and transport links need to be configured but regional infrastructure requirements (e.g. for Northern Arc) differ from London.
