What is it about?

The paper described how faculty of a small suburban college was surveyed to determine the professional development which would be most helpful to them. One of the most selected themes involved an examination of political, ethical and economic issues of technology in post-secondary education. The professional development was directed towards faculty across disciplines in the schools of education, business, arts and humanities, and mathematics and sciences. The literature review included philosophy of ethics and morality. Given rapid advancements in technology, the paper was written to help faculty communicate standards for responsible use of technology to students. It provides the tools to help college students make responsible decisions about how to use technology.

Why is it important?

The paper is important because as technology advances, society must prepare future generations with the tools to make responsible decisions about proper use, particularly within a democracy.

Perspectives

When I wrote this paper I observed positive and negative ways we as a society use technology, especially social media. As technology advances, I believe we must maintain a connection to the qualities which maintain our humanity. Technology should be used as a tool to help us, not replace us as members of the human race.
