What is it about?

This study explores how digital characters, or avatars, can inspire healthier eating habits in restaurants. With 672 people from the U.S. participating, the research tested an avatar that introduced healthier food options, similar to what you’d experience in a restaurant ordering scenario. After watching the avatar in action, participants completed a survey. The results were clear: avatars with traits like trustworthiness, warmth, and expertise can encourage people to make healthier food choices. People who care about health and the environment, feel supported by social norms, and have confidence in their ability to make healthy choices are more likely to choose nutritious options. By blending psychology with digital nudges, this study offers fresh insights for restaurants and tech developers on using avatars to boost customer satisfaction while promoting healthier eating.
