What is it about?

Our research, "Sentimental Tourism to a Lost Land: Age and Roots Diversification," explores a specific type of tourism known as sentimental or roots tourism. This form of tourism involves traveling to places connected to one's past or their country's past for emotional reasons. We investigated the factors that influence people's interest in this form of tourism, mainly focusing on the role of age in diversifying the roots tourism experiences. Through our study, we aimed to provide valuable insights that could help tourism providers create more targeted and meaningful experiences for sentimental tourists.

Why is it important?

Our research is crucial as it provides a deeper understanding of sentimental tourism, a growing trend in the tourism industry. With a more transparent comprehension of the motivations and experiences of these tourists, tourism providers can design better services catering to the specific needs and interests of different age groups. This understanding can also help in the sustainable development of historical and heritage sites, ensuring they remain relevant and engaging for future tourists.

Working on this publication was a deeply enriching experience. The exploration of sentimental tourism and its connection with age allowed me to delve into the emotional depth and personal significance that travel can hold for individuals. It reinforced the idea that tourism is not just about visiting new places but can also be a journey into one's past, bridging personal histories and broader cultural narratives. Our research will encourage further studies in this field and contribute to the growth and diversification of the tourism industry.
