What is it about?

Accessible Tourism (AT) is the ongoing endeavour to ensure tourist destinations, products, and services are accessible to all people, regardless of their physical or intellectual limitations, disabilities or age. This paper traces the evolution of the terminology surrounding this concept. We conducted an extensive literature review and statistical analysis of over 600 documents, charting how our understanding and articulation of this subject have transformed over time. Our study reveals that while 'Accessible Tourism' is broadly used today, most papers published before 2010 did not utilise this term. We've also discerned four distinct stages in the scientific exploration of this topic. We aspire that our work will refine the way we search for information about AT and advocate for language use that encourages inclusivity and respect within this field.
