What is it about?

This article argues that employee burnout is not just a workload problem — it is increasingly a boundary problem. Even with flexible work arrangements, employees often struggle to mentally disconnect because work remains constantly accessible through emails, apps, AI-accelerated workflows, unclear response expectations, and “always available” cultures. I argue that organizations should treat psychological recovery as a work design responsibility, not just an employee self-care issue, by creating clearer norms around availability, communication, transitions out of work, and AI-driven expectations. In short: employees do not necessarily want less commitment to work; they want a credible ability to step away from it without guilt, penalty, or invisible consequences.
