What is it about?
This research examined Women's Super League club annual financial accounts during 2011-2019. We are the first to do so in any women's professional sports league. Women's football is in precarious financial health that could damage the league's future growth. We find a select number of clubs are becoming dominant on and off the pitch, which threatens the attractiveness of the league. We provide a roadmap for action to protect the financial health of WSL clubs and capitalise further on recent positive growth.
