Why is it important?
The chapter describes cultural concept of fatherhood and real practice of fatherhood in one European country. The whole book focuses on fatherhood in different countries and can therefore serve as a solid base for comparative study of fatherhood.
Perspectives
The chapter is based on three waves of qualitative interviews with first-time fathers during their four years of fatherhood. Sociocultural context forms an important part of the text. Quantitative data were also used to show the main traits of fatherhood in the Czech society.
