The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the way that higher education institutions operate. We show how institutions changed their traditional decision-making processes to respond rapidly to remote ways of working, and on-line learning and research.

Why is it important?

The study advances the possibility of institutions planning better for unexpected policy shifts during an emergency through the incorporation of rapid decision-making in traditionally collegial environments. At the same time, the paper cautions against the normalisation of such processes.
