What is it about?
The nature of police work exposes officers to significant mental health challenges. Many police agencies offer mental health support to officers in the form of employee assistance programs (EAP). Yet, officers are reluctant to utilize EAPs because of organizational distrust and mental health stigma. This research finds that officers must feel supported by their department to use the EAP, but organizational support is not a requirement for officers to recommend the EAP to fellow officers in need.
