Why is it important?
This review identifies specific digital game-based strategies that align with the learning goals sought in ID, differences between game design (GD) and ID, and steps needed for the instructional designer to bridge gaps in knowledge or practice between educators, researchers, game designers and instructional designers. These identifications may aid all game-based learning (GBL) stakeholders in development of future GBL.
Perspectives
This literature review examines how game-based learning can enhance learning. Comparison of the goals of game designers and instructional designers shows that they are not polar opposites. Collaboration and study of common outcomes can result in quality educational products.
