What is it about?

During the Covid-19 emergency, many universities implemented their own social networks to foster student engagement. We identify factors that led to the successful uptake of these networks, and provide insights for university administrators who may wish to implement them in the future.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that it is important for universities to allow students to express themselves freely on their social apps. Students' ability to take actions together was a strong predictor of their satisfaction with an app, and it follows that social apps could be an important way for students to stay connected when experiencing social distancing.

This study was conducted during the height of Covid-19 strong social distancing at a university that is known for its in-person experience. During this time, social media was one of the few ways that people could stay connected. This paper provides some insigtht into ways that we can have better remote education experiences in the future.
