What is it about?
Education, and higher education in the US in particular, is under siege. Rather than defend the current system, why not propose an entirely different approach, one that is aligned more with cybernetic perspectives on learning, understanding and a just society and that still meets the criteria for preparing people to participate in a democratic community? This is such a proposal.

Why is it important?
The paper is intended to get people to think about alternative approaches to education in an age when people are expressing doubt about the effectiveness of current systems.
Perspectives
Modern capitalist society seeks uniformity rather than individuality as an outcome of formal education. What form of society would celebrate the uniqueness that every individual brings to our collective predicament? What would the role of formal education be in such a society?
