What is it about?
This paper looks at recent efforts around the world to give rivers legal rights, like the right to be protected from pollution. It explores a tricky question: if rivers have rights, do they also have legal duties or responsibilities? Using real-world examples, the authors argue that while rivers should have rights, they should not be held legally responsible like people or corporations can be.
