What is it about?

The British construction sector has long struggled to overcome the adversarial, inefficient, fractured, and transactional attitudes that exist within it. We conceptualise ḥalāl construction supply chain management and test whether it can help overcome the negative attitudes associated with the construction industry and its underlying supply chains.

Why is it important?

The research topic is the first of its kind, aimed at grafting the principles of supply chain management, as currently found in the halal food industry, and applying them in the context of construction supply chains. The paper makes an attempt similar to that of construction supply chain management, which was originally brought into the construction industry from the manufacturing industry during the end of the 20th century. Being broadly conceptual in nature, the paper theorizes new Sharia-observant means that complement existing construction supply-chain control and traceability systems.

Perspectives

This research opens doors for further research expounding on the concepts theorized. The next step concerning "halal construction supply chain management" is empirically expounding on the paper’s conceptions (i.e., ta'rīf, iltizām, and istiqāmah), and analysing the extent to which they could be positively applied in real practice.
