What is it about?
This study investigated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of patients and staff in a high secure setting. Our goal was to learn how people managed the challenges posed by the pandemic and how it influenced their well-being. We gathered data from both patients and staff members, asking about emotions, coping strategies for stress, and their work environment. We discovered that many staff members experienced high distress due to the pandemic. On the contrary, patients seemed to be less impacted by the pandemic-related stress. Our findings emphasise the significant impact of the pandemic on the mental well-being of staff members. Moreover, it's plausible that staff members played a role in shielding patients from the pandemic's effects by maintaining stability. This insight is crucial for understanding the long-term consequences of pandemics and for devising strategies to enhance people's coping mechanisms in such situations.
