What is it about?

Hospitals are considered to be among the most technology-intensive facilities. These technology-extensive hospital facilities need to be managed properly to make them more sustainable and efficient. Public hospitals in a developing country have very limited resources to constantly upgrade and upkeep their facilities. Thus, the study aims to develop a facilities technology management framework suitable for public hospitals. The study used descriptive research design to identify the specifications of the framework via strategic initiatives anchored on efficiency, sustainability, ecological-friendliness and technological innovation. Results of the survey of the public hospitals show high levels of acceptability of proposed measures which identify the technologies, innovations and materials which are in viable context of public hospital circumstances in the country. These measures have corresponding consideration on managing hospital processes and manpower. Foremost among these measures are aspects of procurement, quality management, preventive maintenance, information technology solutions, materials engineering and green building technologies.
