What is it about?
If workplaces are to tackle work-related stress and its negative effects on employee health and performance, they first need to know what the main problems are. There are a range of carefully designed and developed survey-based tools available to help employers with this, but, interpreting results of these surveys isn't a simple matter, and different methods of analysis could suggest very different priorities. Being aware of this is important, but so is the need to follow guidance and supplement any survey with other sources of data. Adding open-text questions to a survey is one potentially practical way of supporting this.
