What is it about?
The principal can only be charged with misconduct for failure to advise the SGB properly on financial matters as directed in SASA. They can also be charged with misconduct for failure ‘to report maladministration and financial mismanagement’ as contemplated in the Act. This is a matter that came as a shock to Departmental Officials in the famous Schoonbee Case; Schoonbee and others v MEC for Education, Mpumalanga and Another (2002) (4) SA 877(t).

Why is it important?
It is important because corruption is rife and it needs to be exposed.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has a co-author with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. A perception is rife among school communities that finances in Section 21 Schools are mismanaged, and no one is held accountable in this regard.
