What is it about?
When students start their career, employers require certain knowledge, skills and personal characteristics (competencies). We show that the employers of accounting students in emerging economies no longer need technical skills like budgeting and financial management - even though universities focus on this. Instead, they want graduates willing to take risks, able to resolve conflict, deal with failure and adapt to change. We also find new competencies such as those relating to being intuitive and those relating to the need to communicate in a foreign language.
