What is it about?
Germany has by far the largest number of 'Hidden Champion' highly successful and innovative SMEs. This productivity puzzle of SMEs is the focus of this paper. We lift the secrets of success of German SMEs. A key fundamental institutional design and incentive feature is identified that can enhance productivity and output, while also enhancing employee satisfaction: Subsidiarity
