This paper examines the influence of internal monitoring mechanisms i.e. internal audit and audit committee attributes as well as risk and control systems, on the implementation of risk based auditing.

Why is it important?
The findings indicate the importance of proactive and effective audit committee would further enhance the scope of internal audit work. Besides, the presence of matured risk management framework also would facilitate the implementation of risk based auditing due to higher risk and control awareness among management.
Perspectives
This study proves the direct and indirect involvement of internal audit in strategy process setting and hence assist the achievement of organisational objectives. It shows the enhancement and value added contribute by contemporary internal audit practices in meeting the expectations of its stakeholders i.e. audit committee and top management.
