What is it about?
Three novel crystal structures for bromine-substituted ferrocenyl chalcones are reported, as well as an in-depth structural study that includes five structures within the series of compounds. The effect of bromine substitution on the aromatic ring and enone connectivity of the ferrocenyl chalcones was evaluated over crystal structure and supramolecular features. A Hirshfeld surface analysis is also developed.

Why is it important?
Structural modifications within a family of compounds, in this case atom connectivity, can resut in them having unique properties. Within our research group, ferrocenyl chalcones are studied for their applications in materials science and biological applications. Having a perspective on the behavior of these compounds in solid state helps understand their properties.
Perspectives
Ferrocene is a historically known metallocene; it has been thoroughly studied and its properties researched in multiple fields. Moreover, single crystal X-ray structures that contain ferrocene are abundant. This article highlights the behavior of bromine substituted ferrocenyl chalcones in solid state, as well as a comparison on how bromine positioning and enone connectivity can affect crystallographic features.
