What is it about?

Research on the mulllite crystal structure has a long-lasting history, where a long debate concerned the ordering of vacancies throughout the crystal. A very puzzling aspect was that a model describing the highest ordering degree was never established and refined. We here present a completely ordered model that now allows to understand better the crystal structure of mullite, which may be used as a base to also understand better the properties and applications of mullite.
