What is it about?

Titanium alloys are important materials widely used in the aerospace and biomedical industries. We have used high energy X-ray diffraction microscopy to image the 3-D crystal structure of the titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, at the microscopic scale at room temperature. We have then reconstructed the high temperature crystal structure using the crystallographic relationship between the low-temperature and high-temperature phases.
