What is it about?

Iridium(III) complexes, specifically those containing di­hydroxy­bipyridine ligands, have been shown to catalyze the oxidation of water in the presence of periodate (IO4−) as the sacrificial oxidant. A novel iridium complex for water oxidation, is synthesized and characterized using FT–IR, cyclic voltammetry/rotating disc electrode polarography, fluorescence spectrometry, high resolution mass spectrometry, CHN elemental analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy.
