What is it about?

Mantid is a software package for performing data reduction of neutron data (https://www.mantidproject.org/). This work outlines the addition of new functionality for performing Texture Analysis reductions. Texture Analysis is the study of the underlying crystal structure of a material (https://docs.mantidproject.org/nightly/concepts/TextureAnalysis.html). It provides the information on the orientations of the underlying crystallites which has implications to the engineering material properties.

Why is it important?

Understanding how to process your data for performing texture analysis on a sample can be challenging. This can be confounded if you need to work with data in a different format to what the instrument provides. Mantid natively supports the ISIS neutron diffraction instruments ENGIN-X and IMAT and so the addition of this work greatly streamlines the process of running texture experiments on these instruments
