What is it about?

We give a comprehensive analytical model of the operation of a triple-Laue interferometer having the splitting or recombining crystal bent.

Why is it important?

The measured value of the bulk lattice parameter of 28Si using X-ray interferometry is essential to realize the kilogram by counting 28Si atoms. However, analytical and numerical studies of the X-ray propagation in bent crystals suggest that the measured lattice spacing might refer to the crystal surface. Our study confirms these clues and supports experimental tests.

Perspectives

Our results will support experimental tests of the dynamical theory of X-ray propagation in crystals and more accurate measurements of the Si lattice parameter.
