What is it about?
It is the first report on the emergence or a new genetic lineage of Zika virus in India, with novel non-synonymous mutations in its genome. This warrants further investigations on the implications of these in the human host as well as in the Aedine vectors involved in the transmission of the virus.

Why is it important?
The findings warrant investigations on implications of the novel mutations recorded in the re-emerging virus lineage on its virulence in human host as well as on the vector competence in the insect vectors
