What is it about?

Tracking and tracing technologies currently refer only to the retrieval of identification codes and the location of goods. But for early detection of food quality related problems during cool-chain transportation, remote monitoring of product temperature is an absolute necessity. The prototype of an intelligent container shows how wireless sensor networks can be applied for transport supervision.

Why is it important?

Problems such as high signal attenuation by water containing products can be overcome by modification of the device’s radio frequency. New standardized protocols enable the access of sensor data within the container by use of mobile communication and existing internet infrastructure.
