What is it about?

As engineering structures become increasingly lightweight, the vibration phenomena they exhibit become increasingly complex. In order to predict how these structures will behave, such phenomena must be fully understood, posing new and significant challenges. In this work we demonstrate that a phenomenon, similar to a whirling cable, is also seen in more general structures. This has not previously been described for such structures, and represents a new class of responses that must be understood.
