“The Use of Antidotes for Calcium Gluconate Extravasation

What is it about?

During the administration of intravenous drugs in a neonate, the infiltrated fluid can leak out of the vein, a process known as extravasation. When extravasation of calcium gluconate occurs it can cause calcium deposits and skin lesions. This study compares the efficacy of four antidotes to prevent this lesions: sodium thiosulfate, hyaluronidase, triamcinolone acetonide and saline solution.
