What is it about?

The 2015 American Heart Association guidelines recommended pediatric rescue chest compressions of at least one-third the anteroposterior diameter of the chest, which equates to approximately 5 cm. This study evaluated the appropriateness of these two types by comparing their safeties in chest compression depth simulated by CT.

Why is it important?

Considering safety, the chest compression of one-third AP depth might be more appropriate than the one of 5-cm depth for younger children, especially for the 1–3 year old group. The chest compression of 5-cm depth might be too deep for this age group.

Perspectives

The chest compression of one-third AP depth seems to be safer than the one of 5-cm depth for younger children.
