What is it about?

Teens are often overlooked by hospice providers, sometimes because of choices made by teens and families. We conducted a qualitative study with 26 families to understand this dynamic.

Why is it important?

This work is important because little is known about how hospice providers interact with teens during the final months of a parent's life.

Perspectives

This research showed us how teens do not receive the attention they need during this difficult time. Even though it is often by their choice. This has opened doors for future research about ways to engage the teens as their parents die. We have convened a teen advisory panel to development interventions to help adolescents.
