This paper was one of the firsts to describe reconstruction outcomes following a new technique to preserve the nipple following mastectomy. In this paper we show it is safe to keep the nipple with mastectomy and perform the reconstruction in the same day. In our institutional experience at Massachusetts General Hospital, about 60% of women wake up with breasts and their reconstruction is complete.
