What is it about?
With a reliable and valid author constructed tool, school counselors ranked attributes of a nurse that would prompt them to recommend nursing as a career choice for students in middle and high school. Academically strong was ranked (most important to less important) 13/16...trustworty, desire to help others and other personal attributes were ranked higher than GPA, math and science abilities.

Why is it important?
Nursing students are not properly prepared when they enter their first year....may foster attrition as they discover the academic rigor and true nature of the role.
Perspectives
Nursing is now in direct competiton to other STEM disciplines...we need to be intervening sooner in middle and high school to accurately portray the role as an academically rigorous profession as well as one that demands professionalism for the delivery of effective evidence-based nursing care.
