What is it about?
The exact points to inject Botox for elimination of facial wrinkles is currently subjective and based on the clinicians experience and established guidelines. Despite these guidelines results remain inconsistent between practitioners as does the cosmetic effect. In this study we introduce a new modality known as Digital Image Speckle Correlation (DISC) that entails taking 2 photographs one at rest and then another with an expression that accentuates the patient’s facial wrinkles. The DISC software then calculates the ideal points of Botox injection for the patient to best eliminate the wrinkles. In this randomized cross-over study we showed that the use of DISC resulted in a significantly longer lasting cosmetic effect with significantly better patient satisfaction than the standard approach. The use of DISC helps eliminate the guess work of Botox injections and results in happier patients.
