What is it about?
Many hand surgeries are now performed under local anesthesia only. For patients undergoing carpal tunnel release surgery, we compared total costs associated with local versus general anesthesia. Overall, $139-432 was saved per operating room case by using local anesthesia only, as well as $1417-1710 total for the full episode of care.
