What is it about?

Patients suffering from wrist pain who undergo surgical treatment use available medical resources differently before surgery depending on their gender. In general, women get more therapy and take more pain medication, whereas men tend to get more diagnostic imaging such as X-rays. Differences surrounding presentation of disease and implicit bias may play a role in these gender disparities. Physicians and future healthcare policymakers should be aware of such differences when attempting to reduce disparities in healthcare.
