What is it about?
In this article we present a series of 60 patients with complex lower extremity defects that subsequently underwent local muscle flap reconstruction for limb salvage. We investigate possible risk factors for failure of wound closure after local muscle flap coverage in the lower extremity and, in particular, we examine the relationship of positive post-debridement cultures on wound closure rates. We hope that this analysis will help elucidate how to use objective wound culture data to standardize debridement practices and improve the outcomes of our wound reconstructions.
