What is it about?
We have performed a review of the literature examining surgical management of melanoma of the external ear, as well as the role for imaging and chemo and radiation therapy. While early literature suggested that extensive procedures should be performed, often amputating the ear and dissecting the neck, we have found the the literature over the last several decades does not support these radical therapies. There is little to no data regarding the role for imagine, chemo, and radiation therapy in external ear melanoma, thus we recommend that guidelines for other sites of melanoma be followed for the ear.
